Sefirot

The Sefirot (Hebrew: סְפִירוֹת‎, singular Sefirah) are the ten attributes, emanations, or spheres in Kabbalah through which the infinite Godhead (Ein_Sof) reveals itself and continuously creates both the physical realm and the chain of higher metaphysical realms. The Ten Emanations

Arranged structurally into the glyph known as the “Tree of Life”, the ten Sefirot represent different fundamental properties of divine and cosmic action. They are charted in descending order from highest (closest to the Divine) to lowest (the material world):

1. Kether (Crown) — Divine Will or initial spark. The first stirring of creation before form.
2. Chokhmah (Wisdom) — Unbound creative force. Pure expansive potential, the “Father.”
3. Binah (Understanding) — Structure, form, and limitation. The “Mother” who gives shape to Chokhmah’s raw flash. The “Great Sea” of Kabbalah.

6. Tiferet (Beauty/Harmony) — The central synthesis. The heart of the Tree, harmonizing Chesed and Gevurah into beauty.
7. Netzach (Eternity/Victory) — Endurance, emotional drive, the force of desire.
8. Hod (Splendor/Glory) — Intellect, reverberation, the mind’s capacity for analysis.
9. Yesod (Foundation) — The mechanism of transmission. The astral foundation channeling all higher energies toward manifestation.
10. Malkuth (Kingdom) — The physical, materialized world. The realm where divine ideas become concrete reality.

The Three Pillars

The Sefirot are organized into three vertical pillars, each representing a fundamental modality:

The Sefirot are not static stations but dynamic processes in constant interplay. Each Sefirah modulates the others:

The Shevirah: The Shattering of the Vessels

In the Lurianic cosmogony, the original Sefirotic vessels were too fragile to contain the infinite light of Ein_Sof. They shattered (Shevirat HaKelim) — and the pieces of these broken vessels became the Qlippoth, the “empty shells” that entrap scattered divine sparks in materialism and illusion.

This cosmic catastrophe establishes the entire drama of existence: the physical universe is a realm of broken divine vessels, and every conscious act of spiritual repair (Tikkun) gathers the scattered sparks and restores them to their proper Sefirotic position. The Shevirah is the Kabbalistic encoding of the Nigredo — the primordial dissolution that precedes all reconstitution.
