Ahura Mazda
Ahura Mazda (the “Wise Lord”) is the uncreated, omniscient, omnipotent, and perfectly benevolent supreme God of Zoroastrianism.
In the Zoroastrian cosmology detailed by the prophet Zoroaster, Ahura Mazda is the ultimate source of all light, goodness, and cosmic order (known as Asha). He is the creator of both the spiritual and material universes, though the material universe was later corrupted by an invasive adversarial force.
Cosmic Dualism
Ahura Mazda is central to Zoroastrianism’s profound cosmogonic dualism. While Ahura Mazda represents perfect truth and creation, he is opposed by the destructive spirit, Angra_Mainyu (Ahriman), who embodies druj (falsehood, chaos, and destruction).
Structurally and esoterically, Ahura Mazda functions similarly to the infinite Monad in Gnosticism, while his perfectly ordered creation is tainted, setting the stage for an ultimate eschatological battle. Unlike the ignorant Gnostic_Demiurge, however, Ahura Mazda is not responsible for the flaws of the material world; those are exclusively the work of the invading Angra Mainyu.
Emanations
Rather than interacting with the material world directly, Ahura Mazda emanates six primary “Bounteous Immortals” known as the Amesha Spentas. These archangel-like entities govern over various aspects of worldly creation (like the earth, fire, and water) and represent the ideal moral attributes that human beings should strive to emulate.
Followers of Ahura Mazda are called to actively participate in the cosmic battle against darkness through the core maxim: Humata, Hukhta, Huvarshta (Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds).
